I recently had the pleasure of installing the Alpine iLX-W650 7" Shallow Car Digital Media Bluetooth Receiver, specifically designed for my 2001 Ford F-250. The installation process, aided by the Metra 95-5817 Ford/Lincoln/Mercury/Mazda 2-Din Dash Installation Kit and the Metra 70-1771 Ford/Lincoln CD Wire Harness, was relatively straightforward and hassle-free.

The Alpine iLX-W650 is a marvel of modern technology, boasting a 7 anti-glare capacitive touch screen that offers an intuitive two-finger swipe user interface. I found it incredibly easy to navigate through the various audio, video, and Bluetooth features.

One of my favorite aspects of this receiver is its compatibility with CarPlay, Android Auto, and the Google Assistant, allowing me to seamlessly integrate my smartphone into my vehicle’s entertainment system. Additionally, it supports Pandora Music, providing an enjoyable musical experience whether I’m using an iPhone or Android device.

The iLX-W650 also has a rear camera input, although I haven’t had the opportunity to install a rear camera as of yet. However, knowing that this feature is available gives me peace of mind when navigating tricky parking situations.

In terms of audio quality, the iLX-W650 offers FLAC/MP3/WMA/AAC/HE-AAC music playback via USB. I’ve been impressed with the clarity and depth of the sound, especially when playing high-quality files.

Another noteworthy feature is its compatibility with the KTA-450 Power Pack Amplifier (sold separately), which makes it a powerful audio solution for my truck. The iLX-W650 used with the KTA-450 was even recognized as a 2019 CES Innovation Awards Winner.

The installation kit and wires included in the package are of high quality, ensuring a secure and reliable connection between components. The Metra TurboWires, in particular, provide flexibility, handle more power than cheaper wire kits, and are heat resistant, promising longevity.
